There is a new movie that is playing in New York City -- that will possibly make it to Sacramento in a couple weeks (or may come no sooner than after the new year) -- that is about a New York homeless man, played by Richard Gere. It's getting positive reviews from the critics, but audiences have been less enthusiastic.. [At Rotten Tomatoes, as of Sep 26, 73% of critics give it a Thumbs Up; whereas a less robust 50% of folks in the audience do so.] The motion picture is titled "Time Out of Mind;"
Anyway, when the movie hits Sac, I hope to take a few homeless guys to see it and then for us to discuss whether it feels "right"; and if it doesn't, I'm hopeful we can identify what feels off in the movie. Of course there should be significant differences between being homeless in frenetic New York City and being homeless in our much more staid city. It will also be interesting to see if the homeless-aid charities in New York and here do similar things to meet people's needs.
